Sushiro is rapidly expanding in China.
Since opening its first store at Guangzhou Dongfang Baotai Plaza in 2021, it has rapidly opened stores one after another at Guangzhou Zhengjia Plaza, Wanling Hui, Yuehui City and other locations. According to Sushiro's plans, 42 to 46 stores are scheduled to open in China within the next few years.
Sushiro currently operates more than 600 stores across Asia, including within Japan, and its future moves are drawing attention.
Sushiro and Others: A Wave of Food Industry Entries into the Chinese Market
The reason Sushiro enjoys support within Japan is that it provides sushi at reasonable prices through a thorough management system. Another factor is that it offers a wide variety of side menus beyond just sushi, meeting diverse needs such as those of families.
However, the food and beverage market within Japan is in a declining trend due to population decrease and rising prices, and many Japanese companies, including Sushiro, view overseas markets as important growth opportunities.
Sushiro's entry into the Chinese market is one such example. The Chinese market in particular is growing rapidly, and many Japanese restaurants are newly opening in China.
Sushiro’s Success in the Chinese Market
Sushiro's expansion in the Chinese market can be described as an exquisite match between Japanese sushi culture and the demands of Chinese consumers.
The food culture of China, a country with vast territory, is diverse, and the wide variety of sushi and side menus—one of Sushiro's distinguishing features—has also won strong support from Chinese consumers.
Sushiro's sushi, offered at reasonable prices within China where incomes are rising remarkably, has become an attractive option for many Chinese people.
Sushiro's success in the Chinese market is also having a major impact on other Japanese food and beverage companies.
Since the Chinese market continues to grow, other Japanese companies are expected to follow Sushiro's success, leading to even more entries into the Chinese market.
Sushiro currently operates stores including 13 in Guangzhou, 5 in Shenzhen, 4 in Chengdu and 2 in Foshan in China, and plans to further increase its number of stores over the next few years.
