【English Name】Soy sauce dispenser

A shoyu-sashi is a container dedicated to pouring soy sauce at the table, also called a "takujo-bin" (tabletop bottle). It has two holes—a spout and an air hole—structured to dispense small amounts at a time. Materials vary, including glass, ceramic, and plastic resin. It is a basic tool at conveyor-belt sushi and table seating, but at counter sushi the chef may apply soy sauce with a brush. In 1961, Kikkoman released a tabletop bottle designed by industrial designer Kenji Ekuan. Its unique structure with the underside of the spout cut away prevents dripping, and the clear glass makes the remaining amount easy to gauge. By covering the air hole with a finger, it is also possible to dispense one drop at a time. In 1993 it was selected as a Good Design Mark product.
