【English Name】California roll is a type of sushi roll that originated in the U.S.
A type of rolled sushi (uramaki, or inside-out roll) said to have originated in Los Angeles or Canada. Generally, imitation crab (kanikama), avocado, mayonnaise, white sesame, and the like are rolled with the nori on the inside and vinegared rice on the outside, with tobiko (flying fish roe) and similar items scattered on the outside. As the original sushi roll, it became a catalyst for the spread of sushi's popularity overseas. The California roll was also reverse-imported into Japan, where it became popular domestically.
