【English Name】Chirashi-suhi / Chirashi-zushi

A type of sushi eaten with ingredients scattered over vinegared rice. It developed from "koshizushi" and "sukuizushi." Because various colorful ingredients are scattered over the vinegared rice, it has a gorgeous appearance and is often eaten at celebratory occasions such as Hinamatsuri (the Doll Festival). There are various forms of chirashizushi throughout Japan, and in the Tohoku region and northward it is also called "namachirashi."
